What are COB LEDs?

This light source is a type of LED that has a wide light-emitting surface.

COB stands for "Chip On Board" and refers to a structure in which the LED (chip) is directly mounted on a substrate (board).

COB LED Structure and Features

COB LEDs have three features: (1) high output, (2) wide lighting range, and (3) less likely to produce multiple shadows.

① High output

Comparing the structure of chip-type LEDs and COB LEDs, we can see that COB LEDs contain multiple LED chips in one unit.

In addition, the higher the output power of an LED chip, the more heat it generates. How to dissipate heat is crucial to product safety. COB LED attaches the LED chip directly to the aluminum substrate, and has high heat dissipation performance. This structure makes it easy to dissipate the heat generated by the device, so that high output can be achieved.

② Wide irradiation range

As shown in the figure, if you compare the sizes of chip-type LEDs and COB LEDs, you can clearly see how wide the light-emitting surface of COB LEDs is.

The larger the light source, the easier it is for the light to reach a wider area.

However, while COB LEDs are good at large-area lighting, they are not suitable for long-distance lighting.

Products equipped with chip-type LEDs are combined with lenses and reflectors to expand the irradiation range and allow light to reach a long distance, but products equipped with COB LEDs use direct light from the light source (COB LED), because it emits too much light. , It is difficult for light to reach a long distance.

Therefore, when you want a wide range of short-distance lighting, products equipped with COB LEDs are very suitable.

③ Difficult to create multiple shadows

Multi-light lamps equipped with multiple chip-type LEDs will create shadows due to the number of each LED installed, making it difficult to see clearly due to multiple shadows. Especially when there is light on the hand, there are multiple shadows on the hand when working for a long time, which will cause eye fatigue and reduce work efficiency.

On the other hand, COB LEDs emit light from a single surface, so multiple shadows are less likely to appear, making them suitable for long-term work.
